Why we built a trend line, not just a daily total

One day of eating tells you almost nothing about where you're headed. Weight fluctuates day to day with water and sodium alone, and a single high or low calorie day is normal, not a signal. Most tracking apps still lead with that one number anyway, because it's the easiest thing to show.

Calorie's Progress screen is built around the trend instead — a rolling view of weight and intake over time that smooths out the daily noise and shows the direction that actually matters. That's the number worth checking in on, and the one that actually predicts whether a plan is working.

This is also why the app doesn't shame or reward individual days. A birthday dinner or a rough week doesn't undo months of consistent tracking, and treating every day as a pass/fail test is exactly the kind of pressure that makes people quit. The trend keeps the long view in focus.
